It’s definitely fair to say time management can be a tricky thing to conquer.
Do you ever just feel like there is not enough time in the day to complete every task on your to-do list?
Well, I felt like that all the time! I was struggling to stay ahead of all my tasks and work for such a long time. Deadlines and chores started piling up and I felt like I was drowning in it all.
I started becoming overwhelmed and defeated like I wasn’t “super woman” like all these other women out there doing everything and making it look so easy. But then I just snapped out of it and said, “if they can do it, then so can I”.
I just decided to stop spending so much time worrying about comparing myself and putting myself down for not doing as much as everyone else and started planning out how I could get more things done in a day. And I gotta tell ya, I’m loving my new routine!
I sat down one day and I planned out in my FAVORITE PLANNER how I can get everything done on my to-do list in one day.
This was not an easy task, I load myself up with a lot of tasks everyday because I’m an overachiever. But in the end I knew little changes now, would add up to big things later.
The whole point of this, is for you to find more time in your day for yourself and things that bring you joy!
So, let’s get down to the details of how you can adjust your schedule to get more things done in one day.
I will also be showing you guys what my daily routine now looks like.
FIND MORE TIME
The easiest way to do this is to wake up earlier! I was so against this in the beginning since I am NOT a morning person. But my husband kept pushing me and motivating me to get up earlier, and now I love it because I have just found an extra 2 hours to add to my day!
SET A SCHEDULE
If you don’t already have a planner or a calendar you use on your computer or phone, then I suggest you invest in one!
My planner is like my holy grail. I would be completely lost without it. I literally write everything in my planner. My schedule for the day, my up-comping due dates, things I want to get done, Ideas for upcoming posts or even Instagram picture inspirations. I seriously use my planner for everything. And now I just started getting into bullet journaling and its like my new obsession! Seriously, if you don’t know what I’m talking about check THIS out!
Say goodbye to social media. Not all together, that would be crazy talk. I mean just turning off all social media when you have a set task to do that does not require social media so that you can complete that task without distractions.
For example, I’m writing this post right now, and until I complete this post I have told myself I can not respond to anything social media related. It’s a great way to stop wasting time on social media and to boost productivity.
I am a classic lazy person without my liquid motivator, coffee. I seriously work so much slower and less efficiently when I don’t have caffeine, so for me I always make sure I drink my coffee before I need to finish a big task that requires a lot of mental effort. If you can’t drink caffeine then find another natural and healthy substitute that will be your mental reminder that it’s time to focus. My friend swears by drinking ice water. She sits down to write long papers for hours and just drinks ice water and swears it helps her focus. I gotta say, I have tried this before and I think she she on to something. Sometimes it’s just about convincing your mind.
Learn to say NO
You cannot always say yes to everyone or else you give away all your time to others and leave nothing for yourself. Personal time is just as important as helping others. So make sure you have a good balance in your life and learn to say no to others if you already have too much on your plate. People will understand you’re only human and need time for yourself.
If it’s on the list, THEN DO IT!
I used to make lists and then the day would come for me to do those things and I sometimes just wouldn’t feel like it and skip them. DON’T DO THAT! If it’s on your list, then just do it! This way you eliminate anything being pushed over to another day and getting you off schedule.
So, now that you have seen some of my tips on time management, let me show you what this looks like in my schedule.
For those of you that don’t know, I’m a full-time Psychiatric PA, plus I blog on the side as my hobby/side hustle.
Blogging is truly my passion, but good lord does it take up time. So, I really struggled with finding time for everything in the beginning and was always overwhelmed and really behind on my tasks.
But now my schedule is set perfectly so that I have time for me, my career, my hobby, AND my hubby.
MY DAILY SCHEDULE:
4:15 am– wake-up
4:30- 5:30am – GYM
5:30-6:00 am – work on blog/social media
6:00- 7:15 am – shower, eat breakfast, get ready for work
7:40 am – arrive at work and review patient charts for day
8:00 am – 4:30 pm – work
5:00 – 5:45 pm – get home, work on instagram, Pinterest, or blog
5:45 – 6:15 pm – cook dinner/clean house if need be (my husband and I are super clean and it takes like 5 mins to clean our house cause we always clean up after ourselves everyday)
6:15- 7:00 pm – eat dinner, clean dishes, get lunch ready for tomorrow
7:00 – 7:30 pm – hang out with husband on patio and take about our day
7:30 – 8:00 pm – shower, (free me time i use this time to do whatever I want edit pics, read a book, etc)
8:00-9:30 pm – get in bed, watch a show, hang out with hubby
10:00 pm – asleep
*This is different every weekend depending on what we have planned, but for the most part we wake up, eat breakfast, then either run errands, go shopping, or go to the movies and grab food in-between all that. My husband works every other Saturday so I adjust my schedule based on that.
8 am – wake up (I don’t set an alarm but I’m normally up by 8 am or earlier most mornings)
9 am- 8pm – do whatever we had planned for the day
9 pm – in bed and watching movies or shows till we fall asleep which is normally like 10pm (I know we are like grandparents)
*if my husband is working on Saturday- then I work on my blog and try to complete at less 2 post and set up my Pinterest account for the week. Then we always do dinner out at our favorite restaurant.
*if my husband is not working Saturday- then we hang out running errand and doing things together and I do not work on my blog.
(the main reason why I do this, is I hate sitting on my phone all day working when I have time to spend with my husband, so I plan my days accordingly so that we can make the most of our free time off together)
So, as you can see I have added a lot of extra time to my schedule just by waking up early and getting stuff done.
The one thing I’m still struggling with finding time for is taking pictures for Instagram and the blog. My husband and I work a lot, so for the most part we just take random pictures here and there when we are going places. It’s easier for us and I’m not one for big set-ups and “photo shoots” though, I am seeing the benefit in having all your pictures stocked up and ready to post now.
My future goals are to start finding more time to plan out “photo shoots” to stock up on pictures so that I won’t be behind on social media posts and can be more proactive. I think this will also help cut down on my anxiety level and feeling so overwhelmed with having to update and do pics everyday.
But I’m definitely happy with the improvements that I have made so far in my schedule and how much time I have given back to myself to work on things that I love.
I hope you guys find these tips helpful and can start utilizing them in your schedules to give you more time to find your bliss!
