So to start, I have always been obsessed with long healthy hair. I have tried all different hairstyles and tried MANY, MANY colors, but I always go back to blonde and long. It’s kind of become my signature look and my comfort zone. I just love that with long hair I can wake up and go or dress it up with beautiful curls and volume, but the most important thing I have learned is long hair is great but only when it’s healthy. If not, you’re looking at a pain in the butt mane of unruly and difficult hair that you have to load with products to maintain. So here are some of the things I have found that enhance my great lengths and strengthen my hair to give it that healthy, golden glow.

#1: Calia Natural

Calia, Calia, Calia, I cannot stress this enough. No ad here, I just truly love this product and what it has done for my hair. This is a Canadian based company that sells its products online and they ship fast and arrive in perfect condition every time! I purchased this stuff about 2 years ago for the first time when I decided I wanted to start growing out my hair.  All of their products are organic ingredients only. I purchased the purifying shampoo and conditioner and have not turned back or used anything else since. As soon as I started using this shampoo and conditioner I noticed after the first wash my hair wasn’t weighted down and it felt sooooo clean. I was shocked at how nicely my hair dried naturally and the healthy shine it had. After using the product for over 2 years now, I can truly say the different in texture and health of my hair is drastically improved. Less breakage/split ends, more shine, more volume, and NO BUILD-UP! That’s right, no need to use harsh clarifying shampoos anymore, because this stuff does not build-up on my hair. Now keep in mind everyone’s hair is different and there are a variety of different type of shampoos and conditioners they have on their site so if you plan to buy this, look for the one that will work for your hair type to gain the best results.

#2: Bamboo Brush

Ok so I never used to think much about the brush I used and that was a HUGE mistake! The brushes you use on your hair are sooo important! By using the right brush, you can cut down on breakage and damage. The great thing about bamboo brushes is that they glide through your hair like butter and don’t snag and break your hair. In addition, and most IMPORTANTLY, they distribute the natural oils of your hair throughout your locks and enhances healthy ends. I noticed when I started using a bamboo brush that I could extend the amount of time between washes because my scalp wasn’t as oily because the brush was helping to evenly distribute the oils throughout my ends.  And oh baby, the shine I got from this! AMAZING!

#3: Coconut Oil Mask

I started doing coconut oil masks about 4 years ago, and this has really helped condition my hair and I truly think this is the reason my hair grows so fast. Whether it is because my ends aren’t breaking off as much, or that its really helping my hair grow, I don’t know, but all I know is my length has surpassed any length I’ve ever had before in record time. When I started doing these mask my hair was at my shoulder blades and then in 2 years my hair is now at my waist. Granted my hair has always grown fast, (good genetics, thanks momma!), though this has definitely helped enhanced that growth. So I do this once a week, I take nutiva coconut oil and distribute it all over my head and massage it into my scalp and then pile it all in a bun on the top of my head and go watch a show or do some house chores or whatever. I try to leave it in for at least 2 hours (the longer the better) and then I go wash it out with my Calia shampoo x 2, then conditioner as usual. It takes 2 shampoos to really get the oil out. I always let my hair air dry after this and then, OMG the silky, silky, smoothness is heavenly. I twirl my ends in my fingers all day after this!

#4: Prenatal Vitamins

Not trying to get pregnant here lol, just find that when I take these vitamins instead of normal daily vitamins, my hair has grown better and healthier. I have tried biotin in the past, but I broke out really bad and didn’t notice any change in my hair condition. So I switched to these to try them out, and boy am I glad I did! Keep in mind, this is what works for me, but some people see better results with biotin.

#5: Rusk 12-in-1 leave in spray

Love this stuff, when it’s super humid out and my hair feels really dry and unmanageable, 2 sprays of this stuff when my hair is wet and then brush it through, and volia! Beautiful manageable hair. I’m convinced this stuff is magic. If you live in humid, or windy areas and your hair gets frizzy and tangled easily, try this stuff out because it’s been a life saver for me!

#6: Washing habits

Daily washer here! Sorry I just love the fresh feeling of new clean hair, though I will say if I curl my hair or use heat I will try to wash my hair every-other-day (this is where using the bamboo brush comes in handy). I personally can never go longer than 2 days without washing my hair, I workout and sweat and run around too much, and I feel like I have to wash it to really feel clean. I know that may seem crazy to some people that I wash my hair that much and still have long hair, but that’s where using the right shampoo and conditioner that won’t strip your hair comes into play.

#7: Less heat = Less Damage

I know, right, duh nothing new, we all know this, but come on let’s be serious curls and heat is a necessary evil for a girl like me. Sorry I love my curls and I love my flipped ends when I wear my hair straight and how do I get these looks, with heat of course. That being said, I will do what I call “hair detox days”, where I will just let my hair air dry and then wear it all natural without anything. I do this maybe twice a week depending on my schedule. If I have a lot of events and outings to do, then maybe I will only leave it natural once a week. It’s all about balance and what works for you. Though something I have found that helps cut heat out of my routine is washing my hair and letting it air dry and then style it with heat if need be. That way I’m not blow drying and then curling or straightening my hair. Actually I don’t own a straightener…But that brings me to what’s up next!

#8: What I use to style my hair

Remington Curling wand: Love this for my loose wavy, curls. I can also use this for more of a vintage body wave 1950’s style curls, which I love to do for going out on date nights (I love the 1950’s era and style/look…classic, elegance at it’s finest).

SECRET WEAPON HERE: The InStyler. My absolute favorite! I don’t use a straightener, just this! I naturally have straight hair and this just helps smooth out the little kinks and then it flips the ends for this amazing straight from the hairdresser, blow out look. I’m obsessed with this thing. It’s incredible when I use this to style my hair how many compliments and questions I get about how I style my hair. No blow dryer and round brush skills necessary, it’s so incredible.

So, there you have it my 8 best tactics to grow beautiful, long, healthy hair. I have used these methods for 2 years now, without fail, and I noticed a dramatic difference in my hair and the amount of compliments and questions I get about my hair.

Below are the answers to some of the questions I get asked the most about my hair.

My natural color is a dirty blond (I think I’ve heard hairdressers call it a level 7 blonde) and I did not color my hair for 2 years to get my natural color back and now just recently got a couple highlights to add more contrast to my hair. I love my natural color and just wanted a little highlight to brighten it up but not mask it. I find contrast in hair so beautiful. It’s all about enhancing what is naturally there for me. If you’re in south Florida I go to Color Bar and have the owner Adriana do my color, she’s great!

I actually have never used extensions, mainly because I never saw the need for them and had no idea how to use them. So in all the pics you see, that’s 100% me. I naturally have very thick hair, which is why I never thought to use extensions, but I definitely can see how using them to enhance braids and stuff could be beneficial!

I get my hair cut randomly. Pretty much, if I think is needs a trim I cut it, which maybe happens 3 times a year. Since my hair has been so long and I like the straight across blunt cut look, I actually have my husband cut my hair. That’s right you read it correctly, my husband cuts my hair (true trust right there lol). And no my husband is not a hairdresser so the first time I let him do it I was pretty nervous but he actually does a really good job. Plus, added bonus, it only costs me a kiss and a thank you for the haircut!

Hope this helps all you blissful belles out there!

Any questions about anything just leave a comment and I’ll get back to ya! Also, if you have anything you’ve tried and love for your hair, let me know, I love learning about new stuff!

  2. As far as tips go…well, with that face girl, I would be plastering it over every post. Seriously. Your image says “Obviously I’m an expert, look at me” and we all like to take advice from an expert. So I would break up your text with more photos of yourself.

  3. Your hair is gorgeous! I love the look of long hair but hate it when it’s is really bad condition and the ends are all split but your hair is lovely! I’ve never heard of a bamboo brush before but this one sounds so cool! xx

    1. Awe thank you so much. You’re so sweet! I totally agree that the healthier the hair the better it looks when it’s long. The bamboo brush was new to me too a couple years ago after I learned about it on a youtube video and I’ve never returned to a regular brush!
